Easels and Charcoals

The following class made me feel I was actually in art class. That moment when you realize that what you once fantasized it’s actually happening. It was the first time in my life I was going to use a board, a large piece of paper, charcoal and even better… an easel! For those who have never seen a vine charcoal, this is how they look.

And for those who don’t know what they are, basically is a long and thin charcoal stick that is the result of burning sticks or vines in a kiln without air.

Quite a technical class, we practiced how we should use our whole bodies to draw and to use wide and open movements to control the line. We also learned how to handle charcoal wicks and to draw straight lines and circles with them.

Have you ever drawn with charcoal? If so, how was your first experience with it? Leave your personal experience or any feedback below! Share with me and the readers how it was 🙂
